This recipe will track some of the miscellaneous enhancements and new features related to opening sub-accounts in both CU*BASE and online/mobile banking.

Enhancements to the Savings/Checking Account Opening Workflow
This project adds various enhancements to the workflow for opening new savings and checking accounts, including:
- Providing an option to proceed to marketing club enrollment after opening a new savings or checking account, with the default setting of that option controlled via a flag at the DivApl level
- Allow for the assigned account suffix to be bumped to the next available sequence, in cases where members don’t want to reuse a suffix they recently closed
- Calculate and display the member’s full MICR account number when opening a checking account (right now it only shows the check digit) so the MSR can relay that to the member
Status: Project #58129 was implemented in the 23.05 release!
Running Credit Reports/Risk Assessments via Non-member Maintenance
This project adds the option to run a credit report or a QualiFile risk assessment when working with non-members via Tool #997 Work with Non-Member Database. Today, the ability to run the QualiFile risk assessment for non-members is only available when adding a non-member joint owner. This project adds it to all access points of maintaining non-member information. Special thanks to Illinois Community CU for submitting an Idea Form to suggest this enhancement!
Status as of September 2023: Project #58118 will be implemented in the 23.10 release.
Other Ideas Being Considered
These are still in very early design phases and may or may not come to pass, but here’s what’s on our wish list to consider for future development:
CU*BASE Account Opening
- Digital Card Issuance (DCI) for ATM/debit cards and credit cards (see the separate Kitchen recipe)
- Add overdraft protection setup to the new checking account workflow
- Add a pushbutton so an MSR can send documents out for e-signing during the new account flow
- Record a creation date on new Secondary Names records.
- Other minor tweaks to the flow, screen verbiage, and functionality as suggested by CUs
Online/Mobile Banking Account Opening
- Adding automated Digital Card Issuance (DCI) for 1Click credit card offers (see the separate Kitchen recipe)
- Add overdraft protection setup to the new checking account workflow
- Allow CUs to specify parameters for running a QualiFile risk assessment scan to determine whether a new checking account can be opened
- Ability for a CU to attach forms for e-Signing when a new account is opened
- Ability for the member to order debit cards when opening a new checking account, including the option for DCI and push provisioning for new debit card orders (see the separate Kitchen recipe)
- Push provisioning for digitally-issued cards via the mobile app (see the separate Kitchen recipe)

It would be ideal if the full MICR (and R/T) also appeared in the app after the account was opened. Not just in the opening process. Thank you.
This is also on our list of ideas for future online banking enhancements, but we are also getting a fair amount of pushback from the security-minded who say it is risky to provide this information online. It is always a balancing act, so whatever we do it will have to be a configurable flag so CUs who feel it is too risky can chose not to use it.

Glad to hear it’s being discussed and configurable would be fine with us. In our minds that info is already out in the world every time you write a check (if you still do :)). And the option to get the info once authenticated would certainly reduce some of our inbound calls, especially when folks are looking to set up ACH items. Thanks, Dawn!
I completely agree with Lisa. This is something I hope to see in the very near future. The number of calls and inquiries we get about this is overwhelming, especially when it’s standard practice with most FI’s to provide this information. We just launched Glia (online chat bot) and we’re getting a fair number of questions on how to obtain this information. Other than calling us, there isn’t much of an option to get the full MICR number for direct deposit, ACH payments, etc.
Ditto. I submitted an idea about a year ago to have it display in account details when on the app or desktop.
We need the ability to enhance the workflow of opening a checking account through online/mobile banking. The flow now is missing key elements that credit unions needs when opening a checking account- including document signing, ordering of debit card, and ODP. Without these features, the ability to open a checking account online is unusable (unless the CU creates manually after-the-fact processes, which is dumb and unnecessary).
Happy to see the wish list items. Agree with Mike, having these in the workflow will save the manual follow up that is currently required.
It would be a nice feature for a credit union to be able to print a direct deposit form for their member. After opening the account, the employee can print the DD form right from Gold and may be included in the other paperwork they may receive.
This can actually be done already via a Misc. Member Account Form attached to the DivApl. While these forms can only show a single account suffix at a time, you can use the “Edit upon printing” and the system will pause to let you type whatever additional info you want to include on a particular member’s form before it prints. And we will add to our wish list the idea of adding MICR as one of the selectable account data points for the form. Thanks for the suggestion!
How about prohibiting immediate access to Bill Pay and P2P from MOP members?
