CU*BASE Network and Hardware Specifications

Revised January 17th 2012

Introduction

These guidelines are designed for new credit unions who are converting to the CU*BASE platform with CU*Answers. The standards and guidelines outlined below should be used in the planning process for upgrading existing equipment, for the purchase of software and new equipment, and for preparation of the training site in anticipation of the conversion.

Purpose

The guidelines are intended to help make the transition smoother and eliminate unnecessary complications and problems that come from untested or incompatible equipment and software. A successful conversion depends on many factors; network configuration, network security, and hardware compatibility are critical components in making sure your staff can reap the benefits of your CU*BASE investment from day one.

CU*Answers and CU*BASE Networking and Hardware minimum specifications are subject to periodic change. Please check with the Network Services team for the most current information prior to investment in new hardware, network-related equipment, or software.

Windows 7 - CU*Answers is proud to announce that Windows 7 (32-bit) is fully certified with both CU*BASE GOLD and the CU*Answers ASP eDoc solution. If you are utilizing an in-house eDoc solution, please contact eDoc for version support. We are currently working towards certifying the 64-bit Windows platform as well and hope to have it certified this summer. Please refer to the CU*Answers Kitchen for more information!

Windows Vista - Window Vista is not certified with the CU*BASE or eDoc software suites. There are no plans to certify CU*BASE with Windows Vista. Microsoft will be releasing Windows 7 on October 22, 2009, and this will become their new flagship operating system. CU*Answers is currently working to certify Windows 7 with CU*BASE. Please refer to the CU*Answers Kitchen for more information!

Training Sites

Larger converting Credit Unions may require additional weeks of training; contact your conversion coordinator to confirm required training time.

Network Requirements for Training

The following network components must be in place before training can begin.

  • An MPLS connection to CU*Answers must be established. CU*Answers will oversee the installation of this connection. Generally, sixty days must be allowed for the line to go in - this is prior to the training site being used for training.
  • The training site must have high-speed Internet connection access to all workstations being used for training.
  • There must be sufficient high-speed Internet connection bandwidth to support training activities:
    • 384kbps minimum
    • Greater bandwidth required if you plan to have more than three staff-members using website training simultaneously. A 1.5mpbs connection is recommended.
  • The training site must have a properly configured firewall.
  • Users must have access to the following sites:
  • All training site workstations must have current anti-virus software installed on all computers and virus definitions must be up to date.
  • All training site workstations must have updated Root Certificates. You can upgrade your Internet Explorer's Browser root certificate by visiting the Verisign website (Verisign Root Certificate Update) and then selecting the root certificate button.
  • You may also visit Microsoft's Windows Update site at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and select Product Updates and then Root Certificate Update.
  • All training site workstations must have Macromedia Flash Player 7 or newer installed. This is freely available at: Macromedia Flash Player Download
