Biography
Bill Nikolauk is President/CEO of 1st Community Federal Credit Union in San Angelo, Texas. Bill joined the credit union movement in 1984 serving as Collection Control Officer, Loan Officer and Branch Manager for General Telco FCU, Dallas, TX. He then came to 1st Community FCU in San Angelo, TX and served as Senior Vice President Lending and Senior Vice President of Operations before becoming President/CEO in 1992. 1st Community Federal Credit Union has grown from $53 million to over $400 million in assets, increased its field of membership from one county to encompass 27 counties, and has added 5 new branches.
Bill has also implemented new technology and lending strategies to provide members with the ability to connect with their credit union 24/7 and to streamline lending. He started several CUSOs for the Credit Union to include insurance and an LOS as well.
Bill understands that the employees of the Credit Union are its lifeblood rewarding them with a rich benefit plan to include incentives and an employee recognition dinner to celebrate employees with 5-year milestones. He has led the way over his tenure for the Credit Union to be recognized as NAFCU’s Credit Union of the Year in 2003, Air Force Credit Union of the Year in 2013 and he was named NAFCU’s CEO of the Year in 2014. Bill was awarded the Bob Diebitsch Award by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce in 2017 as well as the Angelo State University Alumni of the Year Award in 2024.
Bill received his B.B.A. Finance from Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas in 1984.He graduated from the CUNA Management School in 1991 and from the NAFCU Management Development Institute in 1994.
Bill is originally from Eldorado, Texas where 1st Community FCU opened its first out-of-town branch. He is married to Debbie and they have two adult children, Kaitlin and Mark. He loves his family, the credit union and the friends and business relationships he has made in the credit union movement.
