Enhancements to Access Controls for “It’s Me 247” Online Banking

Transfer Control Enhancements: Adding Account Suffixes to Transfer Controls

This project expands the Transfer Control feature so that when setting up an account base for a member to transfer to, three choices will be offered:

  1. Allow transfers to all sub-accounts under this membership
  2. Allow transfers to sub-accounts on which I am listed as a joint owner or additional signer
  3. Allow transfers to specific account suffixes only (will then proceed to a separate screen to set up one record per suffix)

This is similar to how we do the Reg E Opt In/Out feature, where a member can simply opt in at the membership level and suffixes only need to be set up if there are exceptions to that rule.  This will involve creating a new table for suffixes, one record per suffix, and it would be used only when that option was selected for a particular account.

To help with workflow management CUs will be able to set their default preference, but the setting can still be adjusted on a case-by-case basis in order to accommodate situations such as members who need to transfer money to someone even when they aren’t listed as an owner on that person’s account.

Enhancements to “See” Functionality for Online/Mobile Banking

This project adds a configurable option to It’s Me 247 online/mobile banking so that CUs offering the “See” feature can control which accounts can actually be seen by the guest member who is accessing the account.  A CU-level configuration flag will provide two choices:

  • Show all of that member’s sub-accounts (as now)
  • Show only the sub-accounts on which the guest member has an owner relationship (either joint owner or additional signer/co-borrower)

This setting would apply to all members across the board and is based on the CU’s sensitivity to joint ownership and how it relates to the member-elected function to grant another member access to “see” their accounts via It’s Me 247.

NOTE:  No change is being made to how the initial See privileges are granted. A member still must ask a CU employee to specifically grant See access to another membership before the feature will be available. This project simply changes which accounts will be presented when the member clicks the button in It’s Me 247.

New Feature: “See” with Money Management

In a nutshell, the existing “See” and “Jump” features will be joined by a third, similar feature called “Money Management.” A member can then allow another person not only to view their account balances and transaction history, but also manage their money, without needing to log in directly with credentials.

Mockup of Transfer Controls with the new Money Management feature

The new CU-level control being created in project #45114 would be attached to Money Management to accommodate the different ways that credit unions handle joint ownership.  (Many CUs have policies that state if a person is joint on the membership share, they are allowed access to all of the sub-accounts, regardless of how the secondary names records are set up in CU*BASE.  Although CU*BASE does not support this style of “membership joint owner” directly, we know that many CUs operate this way.)

Coupled with this proposed new functionality, then, a member would be able to view all sub-accounts on which he or she is listed as co-owner, and transfer funds to and from those same sub-accounts using the Transfer Wizard – all via a single set of login credentials.

Although we might someday include other features under the umbrella of “money management,” in this first iteration activating this feature will only affect the “from” accounts shown in the Transfer Wizard.  This will also allow us to display the “Pay Now” button on the loan info page for loan accounts under the other membership, since that simply launches the transfer wizard.

NOTE:  The primary owner of a membership must still grant access to the other party.
