As previously announced, CU*Answers will be performing our next CU*BASE high-availability (HA) rollover on Sunday, February 6th. That same morning, teams will be rolling over online and mobile banking systems to servers at our secondary data center. These rollovers are in preparation for a maintenance project at our production data center that will include a brief power interruption.
The window for the data center maintenance project is scheduled for Sunday, February 6th, from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM ET.
During the initial phase, teams will power systems down in a prioritized manner so that the most critical systems are the last to power down and first to power up.
The second phase will include an upgrade to our Emergency Power Off (EPO) safety system in the data center. It is during this stage that a brief power interruption will occur.
Once that has been completed, teams will begin powering systems up and testing to be sure that all services are back online.
The following services will be operating from systems on the secondary data center and should not be impacted during the maintenance project:
- Online and mobile banking
Other services, including those listed below, will experience a period of downtime and/or delays during the maintenance window:
- Snapshot libraries
- Hosted email and websites
- CU*Answers corporate email and websites
- Credit unions that host equipment at our data center
(Note: these items will be impacted for all CU*Answers, CU*South, CU*NorthWest and Site-Four credit unions.)
The last power interruption that required shutting down all servers and devices at the production data center was performed in 2012, during an upgrade project that doubled the capacity of the utility power feed to allow us room to grow. With our high-availability strategy in place today, we are able to minimize the impact to members during the early morning hours on February 6th. This upgrade project in 2022 is another step forward.
At the conclusion of the maintenance project and associated rollovers, a gap analysis report will be published and announced to share with you the details of the event.
