Learn From a Peer

Updated December 7th 2011

This Recipe's Chef

Got ideas for new or different ingredients? The chefs for this recipe is Dawn Moore.

Learning from a peer is such a simple idea when you think of one person sitting down and calling another, "Can you help me? I've been looking into        , and you probably have, too. Here's what I've found, here's where we are, and I was wondering if you could share your experience."

The trick to learning from a peer on a large scale is figuring out how to avoid repeating that conversation hundreds of times. It's clear that the Internet has solved this problem way beyond anything we might have envisioned 20 years ago. You can blog and people will respond almost instantly. You can Tweet and have thousands of 140-character replies within a day. You can join a social network and get more opinions than you know what to do with.

As introduced during the 2009 CEO Strategies event, during 2010 CU*Answers will continue to develop tools that not only encourage network collaboration, but make it easier and faster than ever...at the click of a CU*BASE button.

Fall 2011

With the 11.3 release, we released a side-by-side configuration comparison of the Cashed Check Fees configuration, available from the MNMGMB menu. With the 11.3 release in the fall of 2011 we released another wave of tools, this time using an aggregate technique like the Tiered Service Peer Analysis, where you can quickly view information about a group of your peer credit unions in one place:

  • Deposit Item Fees
  • CU Printed Check Fees
  • CU Printed Money Order Fees
  • Phone Transfer Fees
  • Self-Service Fees
  • Online Bill Payment Fees
  • Starter Checks Fees

Plus we added an option to allow you to review another credit union's Tiered Service Configuration settings, including how they grant points and the instant rewards they offer members based on Tiered Service levels.

CD Rate Dashboard

With the 11.5 release, we added yet another Learn from a Peer Dashboard, the CD Rate Analysis Dashboard.  This comparison allows you to compare your Certificate rates with multiple credit unions, similar to several of the “Learn from a Peer” fee comparisons in the 11.3 release.

The Dashboard allows you to compare rates according to the length of the term (“Short” - up to 1 year, “Mid” - 1 year to 2 year, and “Long” - 2 years and above). You can also select two comparison credit unions to view all rates across all terms side-by-side with your own.
